If you are assembling your own emergency supplies kit, instead of buying one preassembled, you need to find the right items. To Help us, The Wirecutter has done the job of deciding what a kit should contain and also tested lots of different products to find the best ones.

I like how they explain why they prefer one product over another. For instance, I learned that blue water containers lowers the risk of bacteria growing:
